Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir supporting sustainable tourism in Egypt!!

Steigenberger hotels & resorts is a chain known for its continuous support for the community and sustainability initiatives in any type or form.

This time, Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir hosted the annual steering group meeting of the “Green Star Hotel” program, a national certification program developed under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism to distinguish hotels and resorts who put environmental and social standards in the focus of their business perspective.   The 3-year old ‘Green Star Hotel’ (GSH) program managed to certify 76 hotels and will soon raise this number to 81 hotels scattered in 15 tourism destinations throughout Egypt.  While the program is a national program, its criteria and standards are recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council in the U.S., putting the program on the international sustainable tourism map.  This meeting included officials from the program partners, Travco, Orascom, TUI Group, the German Development Corporation (GIZ), the Egyptian Hotel Association and the Ministry of Tourism who discussed program future activities and outreach.
The Jaz Collection & Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts Egypt is proud to have 36 hotels that are Green Star-certified.
